Stranger Than Matter

Stranger Than Matter is a selection of works that document a three year study of objects that reflect Sol Kwon's longing for nature, integrity and freedom. The different types of objects such as flowers, cheese, stone, bread and fabric photographs are set in multiple grids to create an unusual variation and pace and layer, while scenery photographs printed on double textured pages give the reader a moment of pause and allow looking into closely.

The photographs connect individual objects to form a coherent narrative and create a unified meaning by understanding the organic relationship of the images you see and recall. A page referring Image Narratives that relates two or more object images, in which we intentionally eliminate or minimize gaps between photographs to show connections and sometimes make close ups and cropping to emphasize the texture of the object.

The publication’s back cover design was shown an embossing silhouette of the flower of photography on the front cover in response to the design concept, and its large format and french fold bound her body of work included.
