Inside Other Spaces

On the occasion of the exhibition Inside Other Spaces: Environments by Woman Artists 1956-1976 at Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul, we were commissioned to design the exhibition visual graphics and Korean typesetting for the publication. Conceived at Haus der Kunst in Munich in 2023, this exhibition offers the first systematic reappraisal of the pioneering environment works by women artists, works long overlooked in art history.

서울 리움미술관에서 개최된 《다른 공간 안으로: 여성 작가들의 환경 1956–1976》 전시 비주얼 그래픽과 도록의 한글 조판 디자인을 맡았습니다. 2023년 뮌헨 하우스 데어 쿤스트에서 기획된 이 전시는 미술사에서 오랫동안 간과되어 온 여성 작가들의 선구적인 ‘환경(environment)’ 작업을 최초로 체계적으로 재조명합니다.

Featuring main works by eleven women artists from Asia, Europe, and the Americas - Judy Chicago, Lygia Clark, Laura Grisi, Aleksandra Kasuba, Kangja Jung, Lea Lublin, Marta Minujín, Tania Mouraud, Nanda Vigo, Tsuruko Yamazaki, and Marian Zazeela—the exhibition was further expanded to include works by Zazeela, La Monte Young, and Jung Hee Choi.

The extensive reconstruction of these works, spanning a period of twenty years, was initiated by Marina Pugliese and Andrea Lissoni. It represents the outcome of interdisciplinary research undertaken by conservators and art historians across multiple institutions, in collaboration with artists’ estates, specialists, and, where possible, the artists themselves. The accompanying catalogue includes 366 related images and an extensive bibliography.

아시아, 유럽, 남·북미 여성 작가 11인—주디 시카고(Judy Chicago), 리지아 클라크(Lygia Clark), 라우라 그리시(Laura Grisi), 알렉산드라 카수바(Aleksandra Kasuba), 정강자(Kangja Jung), 레아 루블린(Lea Lublin), 마르타 미누힌(Marta Minujín), 타니아 무로(Tania Mouraud), 난다 비고(Nanda Vigo), 야마자키 츠루코(Tsuruko Yamazaki), 마리안 자질라(Marian Zazeela) 의 주요 작품 11점과 마리안 자질라(Marian Zazeela), 라 몬테 영(La Monte Young), 최정희(Jung Hee Choi)의 작품이 추가되어 소개되었습니다.

20년의 시기를 다룬 방대한 복원 작업은 마리나 푸글리에세와 안드레아 리소니의 추진 하에 시작으로 여러 기관의 보존연구가, 미술사가들이 유족, 전문가, 그리고 작가 본인과 협력하여 이루어 낸 다학제적 연구의 결과로, 도록에는 366개의 관련 이미지와 그에 대한 참고 문헌을 실었습니다.

As the exhibition travelled to MAXXI in Rome and M+ in Hong Kong, it continued to evolve and expand. Responding to this adaptive curatorial framework, the poster foregrounded visual continuity across the exhibition’s different iterations, while a series of variations was developed for a range of media formats.

로마 MAXXI, 홍콩 M+로 순회하며 변형·확장되어 온 이 전시의 컨셉에 맞추어 포스터의 시각적 연결성을 강조하였고 다양한 매체 형식에 맞춘 여러 베리에이션으로 개발했습니다.
